Introduction : | Helmut Abt received the first Ph.D. in astronomy at Caltech. He taught at the University of Chicago. In the 1950s he did most of the field work to find the best site for the Kitt Peak National Observatory, and has been on its staff since 1959. He was the Managing Editor of the Astrophysical Journal for 29 years, bringing it into the computerized handling of manuscripts, using multiple editors, and a closer relation with authors and referees. He does research on stellar multiplicities, evolution, and peculiar stars. He has visited China 13 times since 1985. |
